General Information
Every Saturday morning, the pool opens at 8am. Parents and children are encouraged to help set up ie lane ropes, timekeepers chairs, marshaling area etc. Arrive early for a free swim or warm up before the 200 metre races start.
For insurance purposes, and more importantly, for Club awards, ALL swimmers (including 12.5m swimmers) must be registered with the Club. The weekly swim events are usually undertaken in the following order:
1) – 200 metre races (if scheduled)
2) – 12.5 metre freestyle
3) – 25 metre freestyle
4) – 50 metre Freestyle
5) – 12.5 metre Backstroke
6) – 25 metre Backstroke
7) – 50 metre Backstroke
8) – 12.5 metre Breaststroke
9) – 25 metre Breaststroke
10) – 50 metre Breaststroke
11) – 12.5 metre Butterfly
12) – 25 metre Butterfly
13) – 50 metre Butterfly
14) – 100 metre (if scheduled)
Children joining the Club commence either in un-timed 12.5m events or timed 25m events according to their ability. New members (25m swimmers) and those commencing a new stroke swim a 25m time trial which is then used as their best time.
Marshalls organise swimmers into races and lanes, while timekeepers at the end of each lane record the times swum. The automatic timing system collects times each week for progression times and points scoring. If you miss writing a time down in your personal record pages, times are posted on our website.
Upcoming events are announced over the PA, and all swimmers in the event must proceed promptly to the marshaling area. If members wish to swim additional strokes, other than those that they’re already participating in, they need to tell the marshals that they have not swum the stroke before so they can be allocated a lane.
Progression
Swimmers graduate from 12.5m to 25m when they’re confident of swimming the extra distance.
25m swimmers advance to 50m events when they better the standard times set for each stroke. Standard times are as follows :
Freestyle 24 seconds
Backstroke 26 seconds
Butterfly 26 seconds
Breaststroke 28 seconds
From then on, swimmers will only accumulate points for the 50m distances.
Swimmers choose when they wish to swim 100m and 200m events but they must currently be a 50m swimmer in that stroke.
The Points Scoring System
The Club has a points system that aims to encourage all children to improve their personal times.
IF SLOWER THAN PREVIOUS PB –
> 2.5 seconds = 1 point
2.49 and 1.6 seconds = 2 points
1.59 and 0.6 seconds = 3 points
0.59 and 0.0 seconds = 4 points
IF FASTER THAN PREVIOUS PB –
0.0 and 0.59 seconds = 4 points
0.6 and 1.59 seconds = 5 points
1.6 and 2.49 seconds = 6 points
>2.50 seconds – 7 points
The greater the improvement, the greater the points earned. At the end of the season, these points are used for the awarding of trophies. Points are awarded every time a child swims. A 25m time trial earns four points. A 50m, 100m, or 200m time trial also earns four points. For all other swims, children can earn between 1 and 7 points as follows:
